๐ฅ The Motorcycle Trick EVERY Rider Should Know!
A Lot Is Changing at MotoBros
Today started off like a normal day at the shop and somehow turned into me spinning a motorcycle around for 10 minutes until I was about to fall over from being dizzy.
Apparently, this is my workout now.
But there's actually a lot going on at MotoBros right now, and I wanted to start bringing you guys along for more of the everyday stuff instead of only showing finished projects.
We've got customer bikes coming in, tuning to do, new builds happening, motorcycles coming from auction, some big plans for the community, and now we have to move the entire shop.
So yeah, things are getting interesting.
Just Another Day at MotoBros
We had a customer's GSX-R come back in for a tune revision.
He had an accident and afterward changed the exhaust, installed block-off plates and changed the intake. Since the setup changed, the tune needed to change with it.
One thing we offer with our tuning is lifetime revisions. He brings the bike back, pays $75, and we redo the tune for the new setup.
Simple.
Then Kenan decided he needed an RC390 and ordered suspension for it because apparently he thinks he's going to beat me on the track now.
We'll see about that.
His fork springs and suspension showed up, so that project is coming too.
You Guys REALLY Have Opinions About Spinning Motorcycles
The kickstand spin videos have gone crazy.
I posted another customer doing it and that one went viral too.
What makes me laugh is that this isn't some new trick I invented. People have been doing this forever.
Somehow it got lost.
Now every time we post it, I get the same comments.
"You're going to bend the kickstand."
"You're going to put a flat spot in the tire."
"Do it with a Harley."
No.
I'm not telling you to go pick up a 900-pound motorcycle and spin it around.
When I'm talking about doing this, I'm primarily talking about sport bikes and motorcycles where the kickstand and mounting point are appropriate for it.
You still have to use some common sense.
There are even some Ducatis where the kickstand mounting design is different, and that's something you need to look at before you start putting additional load on it.
Know your motorcycle first.
Why I Turn the Wheel the Opposite Direction
A lot of people also keep telling me I'm turning the handlebars the wrong way.
I'm not.
There are different ways to pivot a motorcycle.
You can lock the bars, grab the motorcycle and basically lift the entire thing onto the kickstand.
It works.
I've done it.
But why work harder than you have to?
The way I show people gives you leverage.
I like keeping the front tire lightly touching the ground because now you've got another support point helping stabilize the motorcycle.
You're not trying to bench press the bike.
You're balancing it.
Once you find that balance point, it takes almost no effort.
You can literally control some of these bikes with one hand once you're comfortable with it.
That's the whole point.
Make it easier.
So We Spun the Bike for 10 Minutes
Then everybody started saying dragging the front tire was going to create a flat spot.
Fine.
Let's test it.
We spun the motorcycle around and around and around.
I started getting dizzy.
Aaron took over.
Then we kept doing it.
After roughly 10 minutes of this nonsense, we looked at the tire.
Where's the destroyed tire?
Where's this massive flat spot?
It wasn't there.
You might leave a mark on the concrete. You might pick up some dirt and create a black circle.
That doesn't mean you've suddenly destroyed your front tire.
You're also not spending 10 minutes spinning your motorcycle every time you park.
Normally you're turning the bike around once.
That's it.
Surface Matters
There is something important you need to pay attention to, though.
The ground.
Don't go doing this on soft asphalt where the kickstand can dig into it.
Don't do it in dirt.
Make sure you're on a solid, stable surface.
Check your kickstand.
Check how it mounts.
And if you're learning, take your time.
Go somewhere safe, have a friend with you and practice.
Aaron learned from me years ago, and he said he purposely started parking his motorcycle forward so he'd have to practice turning it around.
Eventually it became second nature.
That's how skills work.
You don't magically know how to do something the first time.
You practice.
The Bigger Reason I Make These Videos
This is really what I'm trying to do with MotoBros.
There's a lot of motorcycle knowledge that has disappeared.
People buy extremely fast motorcycles now without building the skills to actually ride them.
Then social media makes everybody think they need to immediately do whatever they just watched somebody else do.
That's one of the reasons you haven't seen me constantly posting videos of myself riding as hard as I can.
I don't want some newer rider watching me and thinking, "That old dude can do it, so I can do it."
That's not how it works.
I've been riding and racing for a very long time.
Skill comes from experience.
And experience comes from time, mistakes, training and constantly learning.
I'm not trying to convince anybody that I'm the greatest rider alive.
I'm trying to help you guys.
Apparently I'm Old Now Too
Aaron and I started talking about my racing days and somehow realized that he wasn't even born yet when I was racing motorcycles.
He's 23.
I was racing in 2003.
That hurt a little.
He even went back and found some of my old results.
Thankfully he found some first-place finishes.
Unfortunately he also found some sevenths.
We don't need to talk about those.
But racing taught me a lot.
I remember having a pretty big highside and hurting my leg. When I came back afterward, something changed mentally.
I started winning more.
I wasn't trying to crash.
I wasn't trying to prove anything.
I just understood more.
That's the part people sometimes miss.
The more knowledge and experience you have, the easier riding becomes.
MotoBros Has to Move
Now for the big news.
We're moving.
The property where MotoBros is located was sold.
The new situation basically doubled the rent, and I'm not interested in paying twice as much just to stay in the same place.
So we're going to find another home for MotoBros.
And honestly, this might turn into something really good.
I'd like to find somewhere more central between Dallas and Fort Worth.
Right now, some of you are riding 45 or 50 minutes just to get to us.
If we can get somewhere in the middle, it'll hopefully make things easier for riders coming from both sides.
I'd also like the next location to work better for community events.
More rides.
More meetups.
More opportunities for everybody to come hang out without us dumping a group of motorcycles directly onto a busy highway.
I want the next place to be better than this one.
That's the goal.
There's a Lot More Coming
We've already bought another motorcycle from auction, and I'm looking at more.
We're going to start doing some pretty cool projects.
We're also going to start doing more things for free and seeing how much we can help people in the motorcycle community.
Maybe it works.
Maybe I end up back doing motorcycles out of my garage.
Hopefully I don't have to go get a desk job.
That would be terrible.
We've also got the new MotoBros website coming.
You'll be able to book trackdays, get deals, earn rewards, earn free trackdays, get MotoBros merch and even earn things like a steak dinner with me.
There's a lot happening behind the scenes.
Thank You
I also want you guys to know something.
I actually read the comments.
I can't have a 20-message conversation with everybody because there are just too many, but I try to respond to that first comment so you know I saw what you said.
Frank, Russell, Taylor, Kim, Angela and all of you who comment regularly. I see you guys.
I appreciate it.
This channel and MotoBros wouldn't be growing without you.
We're trying to listen to what you guys want and build this around the motorcycle community.
And one last thing.
If you've never done a trackday because you're intimidated, come out with us.
You don't have to be fast.
You don't have to know what you're doing.
Come with me.
I'll show you the ropes, help you get comfortable and get you out there.
That's how you get better.
Ride safe.
Grow your skill.
And I'll see you guys in the next one.
