I Bought a Brand New Yamaha R3… Again!

Well, I did it again. I went and bought another motorcycle.

This time, it's a brand new Yamaha R3, and I'm genuinely excited about this one.

I was up early, tired as hell, and still had to get back to the shop to work, but I wanted to bring you guys along for the trip. We made a quick stop at Love's for a Red Bull, some candy, and then got back on the road.

I've been waiting on an R9, but when the opportunity came up to pick up this R3, I couldn't pass it up. I've already got some pretty big plans for it.

Buying a Motorcycle Shouldn't Be Complicated

One of the things I wanted to talk about on the way was dealership pricing.

I know how it goes. You walk into a dealership, see the motorcycle you want, and immediately start thinking, "I've got to have it."

That's exactly when you need to slow down.

You have negotiating power. You don't have to accept every fee or pay thousands more just because somebody tells you that's the price.

And if you're putting a deposit down on a motorcycle that hasn't arrived yet, make sure you get the terms and delivery time frame in writing. Don't just hand over your hard-earned money and hope everything works out.

I wanted to show you guys that there are other options out there.

The Road Trip to Pick Up the R3

We made the trip out of Texas to pick up the bike, and I got to show you around the dealership and introduce you to Baylor.

What I like about these guys is how simple they make the process.

The price they quote is the price you pay. You're not getting to the dealership and suddenly finding thousands of dollars in surprise freight, setup, and dealer-prep charges.

They're a volume dealership, and that approach is exactly why I wanted to bring you guys along.

Then it was time to see the bike.

Fresh out of the crate, only a few miles on it, and I was like a kid at Christmas.

I don't care how many motorcycles I've owned. Getting a new one still gives me that same feeling.

We got everything taken care of, loaded her up, and headed back to MotoBros.

Quick, easy, and exactly how buying a motorcycle should be.

Why Another R3?

Some of you are probably wondering why I bought another R3 when I already have the R7 and I'm waiting on the R9.

Because these little bikes are an absolute blast.

I've owned and raced an R3 before, and I had so much fun with it. People can make fun of a 300cc motorcycle all they want, but once you get one out on a track, you start to understand.

You don't need 200 horsepower to have a great time.

You can learn so much on a smaller motorcycle. You can work on your corner speed, braking, body position, and carrying momentum without relying on a massive amount of horsepower to make up for mistakes.

And honestly, sometimes the smaller bikes are the most fun you can have.

The Plan: Turn It Into a Race Bike

The plan is to break the R3 in on the street, do a first ride video, and then start turning it into a race bike.

We're going to do a full build, test parts, and get it out on track alongside the R7.

I want to show you guys what these smaller motorcycles are capable of and have a good time doing it.

We'll go through the upgrades, explain why we're doing them, and show you the results as the bike develops.

That's the part I enjoy.

Taking a brand new motorcycle, learning what it does well, figuring out what we can improve, and then seeing how much better we can make it.

Back at MotoBros

Once we got back to the shop, we unloaded the bike, had a few laughs, and started talking about what's coming next.

I'm really looking forward to this project.

Every time I get a new motorcycle, I still get excited about the possibilities. What are we going to change? How is it going to ride? How much fun is it going to be on the track?

I don't think that feeling is ever going to go away.

We've also got more videos coming, including the oil filter testing and the R7 exhaust and dyno work.

With the R7, I want to show you the starting numbers, make the upgrades, and then show you exactly what changes.

No guessing.

Just real results.

We've got a lot of motorcycles, projects, and track content coming, and I think this R3 is going to be one of the most fun builds we've done.

Now, let's get to work.

Please ride safe, grow your skill, and I'll see you guys in the next one.
